Purpose
The fellowship aims to support early-career dermatologists or researchers in the field of epidemiology and public health, enabling them to work with the Global Atopic Dermatitis Atlas (GADA) team, gain relevant research skills and to take the lead on a small GADA research project.

GADA is thrilled to launch this new fellowship alongside ISAD. At GADA, we are dedicated to creating a global network of research and knowledge sharing, and this joint fellowship will help achieve that goal. Together with ISAD, we are providing emerging researchers the tools and resources to explore the complexities of atopic dermatitis, paving the way for an improved understanding of the burden of AD and better global patient outcomes.
Professor Carsten FLOHR, Director of GADA
I am delighted to announce that ISAD is expanding its research fellowship opportunities through a joint initiative with GADA, dedicated to enhancing our understanding of the burden of atopic dermatitis. As with all ISAD fellowships, this initiative seeks to support early-career investigators, promote collaboration, drive innovative research, and ultimately improve patient care.
Professor Alain TAÏEB, President of ISAD
The GADA team will provide state-of-the-art training in epidemiological research methodology, guiding fellows through the entire process of the project and the presentation of findings at an international conference or publication.
The skills and experience gained from this opportunity will support fellows in advancing their future research careers.
Remit
The project proposed by the future ISAD-GADA Fellow needs to fit the overall aims of the GADA project, furthering our understanding of the burden of atopic dermatitis (AD). Projects can address a wide range of topics, including but not limited to prevalence, risk factors, disease burden, quality of life and the patient perspectives.
The projects should aim to generate new evidence that will contribute to a deeper understanding of the burden of AD, whether in specific populations or broader contexts. A particular emphasis of the GADA project is to fill gaps in our knowledge about AD in low- and middle-income countries, and proposals in these countries will be given priority.
Eligibility criteria
- Applicants can reside anywhere in the world but submissions from those residing in low or middle income country, as defined by the Development Assistance Committee list of official development assistance recipient countries, are particularly encouraged.
- Under the age of 40 years.
- An established agreement between the candidate Fellow and a research or clinical centre.
- A detailed project proposal submitted by the candidate.
Details
- Project funding: 20,000 Euros
- Project length: 6 months
- Number of awards: 1
Application guidance
The project should be completed within the funding timeframe and primarily conducted at the Fellow’s home institution or clinic. However, visits to the GADA Coordinating Centre at St John’s Institute of Dermatology, King’s College London are encouraged as part of the training component. The applicant needs to demonstrate in their application how the funding will be utilised and include plans to present findings at national and/or international meetings. The project must produce a tangible output and demonstrate how its findings will contribute to improved outcomes for patients with atopic dermatitis in the Fellow’s local context. A key feature of the Fellowship is to provide the Fellow with the chance to develop essential skills in epidemiological and public health-related research. Proposals should detail the specific skills the Fellow aims to develop and how they will be gained during the Fellowship.
All applicants are recommended to reach out to the Global Atopic Dermatitis Atlas team at King’s College London to discuss planned projects prior to submission.
APPLICATION BEFORE APRIL 1st 2025
Submit your application by email to the secretary general of ISAD, Prof. Andreas WOLLENBERG at fellowship@isad.org (we acknowledge reception, if not, contact support@isad.org).
It consists of three parts:
- Applicant’s profile including a CV in English
+ original publications with position in authorship and a personal statement concerning the candidacy. - Project description (to be filled in by the applicant)
- Statement from the host institution (to be filled in by the host institution)
Selection of the host institution
Any academic / university hospital, clinical center, or research institution of good standing in any part of the world with a traceable clinical or lab research program dedicated to AD or public health can apply to host ISAD-GADA research fellowships. Candidates must obtain a signed approval of the host Institution before the application is submitted.
Rules and Conditions
The Research Fellowship is intended to be awarded for full time training in research. Any involvement in clinical activities should be directly related to the research project. The Head of the Host Institution must be willing to receive the candidate and provide the necessary facilities. Fellowship recipients will be subject to the normal conditions of service of the Host Institution so far as sick leave is concerned, but the GADA should be notified if a Fellow recipient is likely to be away due to illness for more than a month. Any substantial changes in the research project or change of Research Supervisor will require the GADA´s notification and approval.
Progress / Final Report and Publications
Fellowship recipients are required to submit (in English) a report at the end of the research period on the undertaken work. The report must be sent to the GADA within one month of completing the research period signed by both the Fellow and the research supervisor. If possible, the results of the research should be presented at national and/or international meetings and published in a peer‐review journal. The Fellow is expected to acknowledge the support given by the ISAD and GADA in any publication related to the research work conducted during the granted research period.
