Organization of Care in AD 2020: video is now available!

Dear Colleagues, Dear Friends,

The Hero’s Journey theme underscores the Organization of Care in Atopic Dermatitis Meeting – Atopic Dermatitis Patient Journey, now available for replay.

The introductory score of Richard Strauss’ op 40 Ein Heldenleben (A Hero’s Life) was chosen as a musical symbol of the Atopic Dermatitis Patient Journey by Roberto Takaoka, who organized this event on Nov 6, 2020. The music made me think of better times, when I was able to attend the season’s premiere of Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier, conducted by Sir Simon Rattle at the Met last December, a very memorable event. Now, after close to a year without international travel, music helps us to endure our deprivation of liberty. The symbol of the hero’s journey applies well to the AD patient, who often has to endure some kind of deprivation of liberty and somehow has to acquire a heroic spirit to overcome his or her condition.

I would like to thank Jean-François Stalder and Hywel Williams for kindly chairing this international event. Contributions from Canada, South Korea, France, Brazil, and USA deliver a large repertoire of practical interventions aptly derived from the core of patient’s experience, with the help of medical experts in the field. The rich content of each presentation shows how patients and AD organizations bring in very innovative concepts and projects.

I thank again the very active participation of patient’s organizations in this event, and I hope that the trend to patient-centered research will help us to keep, as a learned Society, the right focus. Best wishes and keep safe during the end of the year celebrations!
