Rajka medal and prize: the winner among 7 excellent applicants from originating from China, Japan, Korea and Madagascar, is Dr Fang WANG, MD, PhD, Professor and Chief Physician at Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangzhou, China.
Dr WANG has an outstanding CV and list of publications. She is a dermatologist with a strong background in neuroimmunology applied to pruritus pathophysiology and treatment. The Rajka medal together with a 15.000 EUR prize will be presented in Doha to Dr WANG during the President’s dinner.
Bio
Fang WANG, MD, PhD, is a professor, a chief physician, and the Deputy Director of the Department of Dermatology at the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China. She earned her medical degree from Fudan University and her Ph.D. from Sun Yat-sen University. She became a dermatologist in China in 2009 and did her postdoctoral training in Dr. Brian KIM’s laboratory at Washington University in St. Louis, USA.
As a physician-scientist, her lab focuses on the neuroimmune mechanisms underlying various itch conditions. She set up an itch clinic and has updated the Chinese guidelines for chronic itch to deal with patients with chronic itch. Her scientific work involves conducting clinically relevant biomedical research with the goal of improving patient care and advancing scientific knowledge.
Over the past years, she has uncovered new itch mechanisms mediated by basophils in atopic dermatitis and delved into the neuroimmune paradigm in various skin conditions. With her collaboration with neuroscientists, she is excited to investigate the role that sensory and autonomic nervous systems play in skin immunity, as well as the mystery from the skin to the brain.
