Atopic dermatitis is a common disease.
Approximately 10-15% of children and about 3-5% of adults are affected by atopic dermatitis in Europe, but this varies. Atopic dermatitis seems to be more frequent in large cities and in industrialised countries than in rural areas.
The reason for this is still unclear, but environmental and lifestyle factors are most likely to blame.
